It is almost three years since Matteo Guendouzi joined Arsenal.
The Gunners, under Unai Emery, snapped up the French midfielder from Lorient in July of 2018.
At only 19, Guendouzi wasn’t the most high-profile of signing to join Arsenal that summer, but a brilliant first season at the Emirates Stadium indicated that the future looked very bright.
Fast forward to now and the North Londoners are reportedly about to sell him for a price that was unthinkable after his first season at the club.
Marseille bargain?
According to La Provence, Guendouzi is closing in on a move to Marseille and the transfer fee will be under £13 million.
It’s still a profit for Arsenal, who spent £8 million on signing him, but they could’ve made an absolute fortune on him had things turned out different.
But Mikel Arteta has had a series of bust-ups with the player – who spent last season on loan with Hertha Berlin – and it seems like the Spanish coach has no desire or intention to bring him back this summer.
It’s such a low fee for a player who still has bags of potential and at 22, could still get much, much better.
