Speaking to Liverpool’s club website, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been raving over Reds captain Jordan Henderson.

Alexander-Arnold was one of a number of players who was asked to give his thoughts on the Liverpool captain as he celebrated his 10-year anniversary at the club, and he had so many good things to say about him.

What’s been said?

While Henderson is usually praised for his leadership and impact in the dressing room, Alexander-Arnold first and foremost wanted to focus on his technical ability, labelling him as an extremely talented footballer.

“He’s an extremely talented footballer first and foremost but also the engine he’s got on him, the intensity he plays at, the desire he’s got to win and commit to the game and to the team [are his standout qualities on the pitch]. He drags the team through games with his energy and it’s just motivating to see him, the way he is so up for it, never really going through the motions, always 100 per cent committed to everything he does. I think it’s just infectious throughout the team,” Alexander-Arnold said.

“He almost still plays like he’s got a point to prove to people, when I think a lot of people would tell him that he doesn’t. I think that’s what motivates him and he finds that the best way to get the most out of himself. I think he is someone who has found his motivation and uses it. He’s never satisfied with what he’s got. He’s achieved so much, especially as captain of the club, lifted so many memorable trophies for us, but he still wants more and he still pushes us to get more.”

Underrated

While everyone recognises Henderson as one of the best captains in the Premier League and a vital part of the Liverpool squad, one thing that isn’t recognised anywhere near often enough is his technical ability.

Henderson is genuinely brilliant on the ball. He’s a great passer, and a fantastic reader of the game.

Throughout the player tributes to Henderson everyone made comments on his leadership abilities, but it’s nice to see Alexander-Arnold comment on just how talented he is, because Henderson is genuinely one of the best midfielders in England, and he deserves more credit.
