French sources are said to be shocked that Tottenham Hotspur are so keen on Joachim Andersen, as he was relegated this season, the Athletic say.
Andersen appears to be one of Tottenham’s main targets this summer, and the latest update suggests that it does look like Spurs will sign the defender.
However, Tottenham’s strong interest has come as a surprise to many French insiders.
They apparently felt that Tottenham may have been put off by the fact that Fulham were relegated this season, and don’t quite understand why there is so much hype being formed around the Dane.
Lyon are likely to be pleased that Spurs are so keen though, as the 24-year-old appears to have no future with them, and selling him could help them raise funds.
Why do Tottenham want Andersen
While some are said to be shocked by Tottenham’s interest in Andersen, those inside the club will surely argue that a central defender of his skill-set is required.
Andersen has shown good aerial strength, and he has been talked up as ‘quality’ on the ball by Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic (Soccer AM).
While Fulham’s season ended in relegation, Andersen largely caught the eye, and his leadership qualities look appealing.
Tottenham failed to settle upon a central defensive pairing for the entirety of last season, with question marks forming over their current options.
And Spurs have obviously seen enough to suggest that Andersen could be a solid upgrade on what they have in their squad at the moment.
