Crystal Palace were worried about Everton coming in and stealing Nuno Espirito Santo off them, the Daily Mail suggest, prior to their talks collapsing.
Palace tried to push Nuno to make his mind up over joining them, as they were concerned that a move to Everton could appeal to him if they didn’t tie him down.
Talks have now fallen through at the last minute between Palace at the Portuguese boss, meaning that he is on the market again.
Whether Everton will come in for the former Wolves manager remains to be seen.
However, it seems that those at Selhurst Park feel it is a real possibility.
Palace were concerned about the threat that Everton posed in the race to appoint the 47-year-old for days, prior to the talks falling through.
Will Everton make their move?
The Mail does indeed claim that the Everton job could appeal to Nuno – not least, as he would earn more money at Goodison Park.
He may also feel that the Everton squad has slightly more potential than Palace.
Everton finished well above the Eagles this season, and have made no secret of their desire to break into the top six.
Nuno could be an appealing option for Everton, as he did help Wolves make it into the Europa League for a stage.
However, his style of football received criticism in the past year, and that may cause some concerns on Merseyside.
