According to The Athletic, Newcastle United want to sign Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic – but know they simply cannot afford him.
It’s claimed that there is ‘an expectation’ that Kalajdzic will be on the move this summer with just two years left on his contract.
Expected to start for Austria at Euro 2020, Kalajdzic could be in-demand this summer – but Newcastle, despite scouting him, just can’t afford him.
How did Kalajdzic perform last season?
He was pretty unbelievable. Kalajdzic racked up 16 goals in and six assists in 33 games for Stuttgart last season, averaging two goal contributions in every three games.
Kalajdzic has been compared to Peter Crouch given that he stands at a giant 6ft 7in tall, but he’s more than just an aerial threat given that he possesses a fine touch and a decent turn of pace.
With Andy Carroll’s future unclear, Kalajdzic could have been a big and physical complement to Callum Wilson in attack, but the money is just beyond Newcastle right now.

Tottenham could rival Newcastle for Kalajdzic
It’s always hard for Newcastle to battle with Premier League rivals given their budget, and they would face a real challenge for Kalajdzic.
The gangly striker is wanted by Tottenham according to Eurosport, with Spurs’ recruitment team tracking him very closley.
Tottenham may not have a manager, but they’re able to spend more freely than Newcastle, and if they want Kalajdzic, they’re more likely to get him than the Magpies.
