Everton may have to pay a compensation fee in the region of £9 million if the Premier League club want to replace Carlo Ancelotti with Lille boss Christophe Galtier, as reported by Le10 Sport.

The 2021 Ligue 1 champion is rumoured to be a big Liverpool fan.

But, if Galtier can emulate his remarkable success at Lille on the blue half of Merseyside, few at Goodison Park would care about that.

The 54-year-old guided a Les Dogues side made up of budding youngsters and grizzled veterans to their first domestic title since the days of a fresh-faced Eden Hazard last season.

And if Everton supporters were left underwhelmed by Ancelotti’s inability to get the best out of a talented Toffees squad, who better to replace him than Galtier – a man who, throughout his managerial career, has demonstrated a penchant for building a team far greater than the sum of its parts?

After four seasons at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, and with the sweet smell of champagne still hanging in the air, Galtier has made no secret of the fact that he wants a fresh start (Goal).

Lille are not going to let their talismanic tactician go without a fight, however.

Olivier Letang, the club’s president, will demand a compensation fee in the region of £9 million with 12 months remaining on Galtier’s contract.

Ligue 1 rivals Nice are also interested, offering the St Etienne legend a three-year deal and a massive pay rise.

This comes after BeFoot claimed, on Tuesday night, that Everton are ‘very interested’ in a man famed for building a legacy at a club, while turning talented youngsters like Victor Osimhen, Jonathan Ikone and co into top-level stars.
