Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has praised Ben White, amid rumours that Liverpool want to sign him, on the official England podcast.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Liverpool were keen on the central defender, who has just made it into England’s final Euro 2020 squad.

White’s recent performances for the Three Lions have caught the eye, with Jurgen Klopp’s side now said to be taking a close look at the 23-year-old.

And Everton goalkeeper Pickford has certainly been impressed by White’s impact.

“I think by his two performances – playing holding 20 minutes in midfield and the full game against Romania the other day. I think [he’s been] brilliant,” he said.

“That just shows that when you come into the England team the environment is there for you.”

Expensive for Liverpool

If Liverpool are to lodge a bid for the ‘brilliant’ central defender then he is not set to come cheaply.

In the Mail’s report they say that Brighton would want £50 million for their prized prospect.

White’s value could actually rise even higher over the summer, if he does impress.

The young central defender appears to be competing with Tyrone Mings for a starting spot on the left-hand side of defence.

If Gareth Southgate does back White to start and he goes on to continue to impress, then his valuation could be set at well beyond the £50 million mark.

That may take him out of Liverpool’s price-range, given that they have already spent a significant sum on improving their defence this summer, with the arrival of Ibrahima Konate.
