Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Celtic are interested in signing Barry Douglas in the summer transfer window, according to The Lancashire Telegraph.
Douglas is leaving Leeds United this summer, and Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic are reported to be interested in securing the services of the left-back on a free transfer.
However, Rangers and Celtic are not the only clubs who want the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man.
The report has credited Blackburn Rovers with interest in the 31-year-old as well.
Douglas spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Rovers from Leeds.
This is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with Douglas.
The Hoops reportedly wanted the left-back last summer.
Sky Sports reported in August 2020 that Celtic were looking into the possibility of signing Douglas.
This time Rangers are also reported to want the left-back.
Interestingly, Douglas is a Rangers fans, and he recently suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he would be open to a move to the Gers.
Douglas said on Talking Shutt’s Youtube channel on April 9, 2020, as trancribed by TheBootRoom: “I grew up in Pollok which is literally five minutes from Ibrox so my family were predominantly Rangers fans.
“So I grew up being a Rangers fan. But once you start playing, and breaking into the senior ranks, it changes a bit.
“You always have your club in your heart, but when you’re playing for points week in week out, it changes it a little bit.”
If Rangers and Celtic both make offers to Douglas, then it is likely that the left-back will choose the former.
Douglas is a fan of Rangers, who won the Scottish Premiership title this past season and could play in the Champions League in 2021-22.
