Borussia Monchengladbach may have no choice but to sell reported Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur target Jonas Hofmann if they receive a bid of £35 million, sporting director Max Eberl told BILD

After finishing eighth in the Bundesliga table, a staggering 15 points adrift of the Champions League places, the summer is shaping up to be a testing one for Die Fohlen.

Highly-rated coach Marco Rose has joined top-flight rivals Dortmund already, with Matthias Ginter, Denis Zakaria, Florian Neuhaus and Alassane Plea tipped to join a potentially devastating exodus.

While Hofmann is hardly the most glamorous member of the Gladbach squad, there will always be a market for versatile, hard-working forwards with an eye for goal.

The Germany international enjoyed the best scoring season of his career in 2020/21, netting eight times while providing another 13 assists.

Will Tottenham finally sign Jonas Hofmann?

According to Kicker, Tottenham are now back on the trail of a player Mauricio Pochettino targeted in 2019, with Leicester and Chelsea also in the race (Sun).

But are the Premier League trio willing to pay an eye-watering sum for a soon-to-be-29-year-old winger with just two seasons left on his contract.

“We live in a time when you can’t rule out anything,” said Eberl. “But we certainly don’t want to sell Jonas.

“If at some point a club says they are offering 40 million euros (£35 million) for Jonas, no club can say that they don’t care.”

Of all the Gladbach players to be linked with a summer switch, the Liverpool-linked, box-to-box dynamo Denis Zakaria is perhaps the closest to an exit having rejected a new contract at the Bay Arena.

Arsenal are reportedly willing to offer one key player in exchange to bring Zakaria to the Emirates.
