Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has shared his information on Leeds’ interest in Javier Galan.
It’s been widely reported that Leeds need a left-back this summer, and Smyth believes that Galan is a player they’re interested in.
We heard in recent days that Victor Orta was talking to a left-back over the weekend, but Smyth says that the Spaniard wasn’t that man.
What’s been said?
Smyth was addressing the transfer links at left-back, and he got onto speaking about Galan.
“This week there’s been a lot of talk about Javier Galan from Huesca. They were relegated this season and he has a release clause, which if you’re on Football Manager, is heaven isn’t it? I don’t know if that’s how Victor Orta sees things in the real world though,” Smyth said.
“He wasn’t the one Victor Orta was speaking to at the weekend, but I do believe he’s someone they like. He’s a good presser, a good tackler and he has sensational numbers when it comes to dribbling, and you have to take into account that those stats were from a relegation team, so playing in a better side you’d expect an uplift in those numbers.”
Just what Leeds need
A left-back who can dribble brilliantly, while also being a fantastic presser and tackler sounds like exactly what Leeds need.
The Whites’ squad proved this season that they’re of Premier League quality, but a few additions wouldn’t go amiss, and left-back is certainly a spot that could do with being bolstered.
Galan could be the man to come in, and as Smyth says, his release clause makes any move for him that much more tempting.
We’re yet to find out how much that release clause is for, but after a relegation, players are usually available on the cheap.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
