David Ornstein has shed some doubts over whether Antonio Conte will actually be Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager on Sky Sports News.

It has been widely reported that Conte is on the verge of getting the Tottenham job now.

However, Ornstein has played down reports that the move is advanced as other have suggested.

Indeed the Athletic journalist claims that Tottenham are still speaking with other candidates alongside Conte.

And that Spurs still have plenty of issues to iron out, if they are to appoint the Italian.

“This is not a done deal, to my knowledge. The talks are ongoing,” Ornstein says.

“He’s one of the candidates who Tottenham are talking to but he’s not the only one and there will be a lot to work through.

“Is Daniel Levy prepared to work with a combustable individual like we’ve seen Conte is, despite the fact he’s a proven winner?

“Are they prepared to give him the budgets that he wants and the personnel?

“It’s a fascinating one and I don’t think it’s a done deal yet by any means.”

More frustration?

If Tottenham’s talks with Conte do fall through now Daniel Levy surely risks another supporter backlash.

Tottenham fans have become increasingly frustrated with the length of time that it has taken them to find a new manager.

Spurs have been looking for Jose Mourinho’s replacement for almost two months now.

And the news that there is still work to do with Conte will be of some concern.

Tottenham can ill afford for their managerial search to drag on for much longer, otherwise they risk falling behind other teams, who are already planning for next season.

There is plenty of work that needs to be done at Spurs, if they are to get back competing for the top four again, and any new boss will surely want the maximum time available to assess their squad ahead of the new campaign.
