Stephen Warnock has questioned on Sky Sports News whether Everton will push for reported Tottenham target, Antonio Conte, to be their next coach.
Whilst Tottenham have been on the lookout for a new coach for several months now, not many expected Everton to be fishing in that market for a new manager in the summer.
But the surprise exit of Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid has put the Toffees in a sticky situation and they are now fishing in the same pond as Spurs.
Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, claimed on Wednesday that Tottenham have opened talks with Conte.
And whilst ex-Premier League defender, Warnock, named the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo and Sean Dyche as potential targets for Everton, he also questioned whether those in the Goodison Park boardroom would dip their hands into their pockets and push for Conte?
“You look at Nuno from Wolves,” said Warnock. “Sean Dyche was linked heavily before Carlo Ancelotti got the job.
“And you just wonder which option they might go for. Or will it be someone left field?
“Will Moshiri dip into his pocket and go for someone like Conte? Can he convince someone like Conte to come back to the Premier League and try something with Everton?”
If a Premier League club can secure Conte’s signature then they are in for a real treat because he has proven that he can deliver trophies.
At Juventus, recently at Inter, winning the Premier League title and FA Cup with Chelsea, he’ll be a popular appointment for whoever he joins next.
The Italian is very demanding, has a big emphasis on defence and has shown the ability to get the best out of struggling or unfancied stars.
