Carlo Ancelotti’s comments about Gareth Bale have cast a big doubt on whether he’ll be returning to Tottenham Hotspur for next season.

Tottenham re-signed their legendary attacker on a season-long loan for the 2020-21 campaign.

And although it was a mixed year for Bale all things considered, he still managed 16 goals for the North Londoners and offered glimpses that he was still capable of being the electrifying player that secured a £86 million move to Real Madrid in 2013.

Tottenham have the option to sign him up for another year-long stint but Bale, speaking after the end-of-season win at Leicester City last month, sparked intrigue by revealing that he knew what the future held for him, but refused to divulge anything in the belief that it would ’cause chaos’.

Ancelotti, who was Real boss when the Welshman was signed eight by the Spanish giants eight years ago, has returned to the Santiago Bernabeu as head coach this week.

And the way that the legendary Italian coach spoke certainly suggested that he planned to keep him at the club next term.

Ancelotti said via The Guardian: “He scored a lot of goals [last season], he was very effective, especially in the final games when he played more regularly. I know Gareth well and if he has the motivation to try to play his best game he can have a great season, I have no doubt.”
