According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland are preparing to ramp up their efforts to sign Dion Sanderson from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a permanent basis.

It’s claimed that the Black Cats are preparing an opening bid to try and tempt Wolves into selling this summer.

Sunderland know they will be battling against clubs in higher leagues, so are trying to make their move quickly.

Sanderson racked up 26 appearances on loan for Sunderland this past season, excelling on loan from Wolves.

Capable of playing as a right back or centre back, Sanderson has great versatility and also potential at the age of just 21.

One potential problem for Sunderland is that their bitter rivals Newcastle United are are pursuing Sanderson according to The Chronicle.

Missing out on Sanderson would be hard enough to take, but seeing him join Newcastle? That would be about as bad as it gets.

Sanderson is allegedly rated at around £2million, and with Lee Johnson branding him a ‘Rolls-Royce’ in February, a permanent bid isn’t a huge shock.

Sunderland will now hope that Sanderson enjoyed himself enough this past season to stay on Wearside for good, fending Newcastle off in the process.
