According to Foot Mercato, Brighton are now very interested in signing Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, as Yves Bissouma’s future remains unclear.
The French news outlet mentions that Liverpool and Arsenal are keen to sign the £15 million Brighton maestro.
In fact, Foot Mercato specifically mention that Bellegarde is one of the main targets for the Seagulls if Bissouma leaves the Amex Stadium.
Some Brighton fans even thought the 24-year-old said his goodbyes at the end of the club’s last home game of the season.
Other fans also spotted an Arsenal crest in the background of his Instagram photo, sparking even more talk about his future.
What could Bissouma offer to Liverpool or Arsenal?
For a start, the 18-cap Mali international has plenty of time to get even better at 24 years of age, so he would be a fine long-term purchase.
Additionally, he boasts plenty of Premier League experience.
In total, he has made 86 Premier League appearances.
In that respect, Jürgen Klopp or Mikel Arteta won’t have to worry about him adapting to the nature of England’s top-flight.
Both sides could do with a new midfielder.
Dani Ceballos has gone back to Real Madrid, while Roma are said to be interested in signing Granit Xhaka.
In Liverpool’s case, Gini Wijnaldum has left after his contract expired.
It’s particularly interesting to see that Graham Potter’s side have identified a replacement.
If they were so confident of Bissouma staying, then surely they wouldn’t be scouring the market to find someone of a similar profile.
Keep your eye on this transfer saga, as Brighton’s links to Bellegarde have made things very interesting indeed.
