After Gini Wijnaldum departed Anfield, Jürgen Klopp seems to be on the lookout for a new midfielder to bring to Liverpool.

One man who could replace the Dutchman is Inter Milan maestro Nicolò Barella, who has enjoyed an excellent season in Serie A.

According to Inter Live, the Reds are willing to pay €65 million (£56 million) for the Cagliari-born playmaker.

The 24-year-old helped Inter Milan win their first Serie A title in 11 years, making 36 league appearances under Antonio Conte.

Barella made 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals while impressively providing 13 assists.

The 22-cap Italy international’s efforts earned him a place in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad for EURO 2020, and rightly so.

However, Barella’s fine work in midfield has also earned him an award.

On May 31st, the official Twitter account of Serie A announced that the Liverpool target had won the Best Midfielder award.

In a division boasting some of Europe’s best technicians, that is a fantastic achievement.

Liverpool must be quick – his price could skyrocket after EURO 2020

If Liverpool really do want Barella, they’d be wise to act fast.

As Mancini told Gazzetta dello Sport, the 24-year-old has the potential to be the star player of the entire tournament.

“Barella can become the star of the European Championships. He is a complete player.”

Italy also boast a strong side who can go far in the competition. The more games Barella plays, the more he’ll put himself in the shop window.

His price could go up, and the competition for his services could also increase hugely.

If Klopp really does want him, Liverpool must try to wrap this deal up before EURO 2020 starts, in our view.
