Rangers just won the title and have Champions League football on the horizon. Would Steven Gerrard really leave them for Everton?
Stranger things have happened… probably.
The Athletic report that Gerrard is on Everton’s list to replace Carlo Ancelotti following his move to Real Madrid on Monday.
This has set tongues wagging; Liverpool legend Gerrard becoming Everton manager? It just doesn’t quite seem right.
In fact, many have assumed that Gerrard, if he was to leave Rangers, would only be interested in heading back to Anfield.
Everton are seemingly ready to try their luck though, and some have wondered whether Gerrard may actually be a Toffees fan on the sly.
Well, Gerrard tackled this subject back in 2019, telling BT Sport’s ‘What I Wore’ that he almost became an Everton fan back in 1986.
Everton met Liverpool in the 1986 FA Cup final, with Gary Lineker opening the scoring for the Toffees before Ian Rush bagged a brace and Craig Johnstone found the net.

Gerrard admitted that he was thinking about supporting Everton, but Liverpool came back to win and that made him a Red for life.
“The cup final between Everton and Liverpool in 1986 swayed me to be a red,” said Gerrard. “Everton scored first and I was thinking I might be an Everton fan, but we managed to turn it around 3-1, so from that moment I became a red forever,” he added.
Gerrard slipped through Everton’s net as a fan, but may now hope to land him as a manager in a quite stunning move.
