Sheffield United have confirmed the departure of John Lundstram via the club’s official website as the reported Crystal Palace and Rangers target becomes a free agent.
The Blades always knew this day was coming.
As long ago as October, then-Blades manager Chris Wilder admitted Lundstram planned to run down his contract and leave the Steel City side on a free transfer.
Almost eight months on, that day has arrived.
After finishing bottom of the Premier League, Sheffield United have confirmed Lundstram, as well as Jack Rodwell, Simon Moore and veteran defender Phil Jagielka, are packing their bags and heading for the exit.
And while speculation over Lundstram’s future has gone quiet recently, the one-time Everton youngster is unlikely to be without a club for long.
The Sun (18 April, page 67) reports the 27-year-old has plenty of admirers at Turf Moor, although Burnley boss Sean Dyche is not apparently convinced about a man whose form dropped off a cliff after an impressive debut season in the English top flight.

In March, The Express claimed Lundstram was also an option for a Crystal Palace side on the hunt for affordable additions with so many players out of contract.
Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, meanwhile, could offer the box-to-box midfielder a chance to play European football for the first time.
Sheffield United were demanding £4 million in January when the Glasgow giants came calling. Now, that same player is available for nothing.
