According to the Edinburgh Evening News, Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is wanted by Hibernian in a move that could see Kevin Nisbet head to Glasgow.
It’s suggested that Hibs are ‘closely monitoring’ Griffiths and his situation at Celtic ahead of a possible deal for him this summer.
Hibs are though ‘bracing themselves’ for the possibility that Nisbet has to go to Celtic this summer, paving the way for Griffiths to come in.
Celtic have been watching Nisbet and Hibs are well aware that he’s on their radar, so Jack Ross and co are starting to look at potential replacements.
Well, the replacement could end up being Griffiths, no matter what his contract situation is at Celtic.
The Bhoys have a one-year option on Griffiths, with his deal set to expire this summer.
If they keep him, he could go to Hibs in a deal for Nisbet. If they let him go, Hibs are ready to pounce to sign him for free.
Griffiths is a boyhood Hibs fan, so a move may well appeal. He’s already had one blistering spell at Easter Road, smashing 39 goals in 78 games on loan with Hibs between August 2011 and January 2013.
Now 30, Griffiths struggled for form and fitness this past season, and a return to the club he holds dear to his heart may be seen as the ideal move.
As for Nisbet, he hit 18 goals this past season and looks to have quality years ahead of him at just 24.
He is certainly one of the top strikers in Scottish football, and if Celtic can use Griffiths to land him, fans would surely be on board.
