Con Ouzounidis is set to leave Everton after being denied the chance to sign a new contract at the Premier League outfit, the Liverpool Echo reports.

After failing to force his way into the first-team picture at Finch Farm, 21-year-old Ouzounidis look set to be replaced by a younger model.

Everton are in talks to sign James Carragher – and yes, he is Jamie’s son – from Wigan Athletic.

At 18, Carragher Jr is three years younger than Ouzounidis and, after making a name for himself on the other side of the Lancashire border, the teenager could be tasked with filling the Australian’s place in David Unsworth’s squad.

Ouzounidis, however, can consider himself a little unfortunate as he packs his bags and prepares to leave Everton on a free transfer.

The commanding centre-back has been a regular in Unsworth’s team for the best part of two years, playing a key role as Everton’s U23 side won the Premier League 2 title.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Callum Connolly and Josh Bowler, who set Everton back a stunning £6 million when he arrived from QPR, will also be released.

The likes of Nathan Broadhead, Ryan Astley and Joseph Anderson are expected to stay, however.

As is Kyle John, the rampaging right-back who has trained regularly with Everton’s first-team squad.
