According to 90Min, Atletico Madrid want to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as Manchester City consider a U-turn.

Luiz has enjoyed a strong season with Villa, and it’s no great surprise that he is attracting interest for this summer’s transfer window.

Atletico are believed to be keen, with Diego Simeone seeking another defensive midfielder having seen Lucas Torreira’s loan from Arsenal come to an end.

Villa would love to demand a big fee for Luiz, but there is the threat of losing him to Manchester City thanks to their buy-back clause in his deal.

City can re-sign Luiz for £25million having inserted a clause in the move to sell him for £15million in 2019.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan, and City are thought to be considering triggering that clause in order to bolster the midfield options at the Etihad Stadium.

The Telegraph claimed earlier this month that City weren’t going to activate the clause, so this would be quite the U-turn from Guardiola and co.

Maybe they feel that it’s actually worth activating the clause to then sell him on given Atletico’s interest, with Villa now left worrying over his future.
