Jermaine Jenas has said on BBC Radio 5 Live that Antonio Conte will not take charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Tottenham midfielder believes that Conte will want to take the Real Madrid managerial role.
The BBC Sport pundit believes that Conte will feel that moving to Spurs would be a step down for him, having previously been the manager of Chelsea.
Jenas said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think he will feel that the Tottenham position is below him personally, having already been in the Premier League with Chelsea. I think Real Madrid is the position he is looking for.”
Tottenham Hotspur or Real Madrid?
Conte has left Inter Milan after leading them to the Serie A title this season.
Both Tottenham and Madrid have been linked with the 51-year-old.
A report in Corriere dello Sport this month claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to appoint the former Chelsea boss as the new manager, as covered by HITC Sport.
La Repubblica has claimed that Madrid – as well as Tottenham – are keen on Conte.
Now, Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and managing Los Blancos is an honour and dream for most football managers.
Madrid will be determined to reclaim the La Liga title next season.
Los Blancos also have a proud history and tradition in the Champions League.
However, Tottenham could be appealing to Conte if club chairman Levy is able to sell him a vision.
The 51-year-old Italian tactician is a serial winner, and if Spurs are able to convince him that he will get the funds and the support to win the Premier League title, then he could well decide to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
