According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are interested in bringing Wojciech Szczęsny back to the Emirates Stadium.

The Italian news outlet believe Mikel Arteta wants the 31-year-old, amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Bernd Leno.

The Athletic have revealed that Arsenal’s current No.1 wants to leave.

As a result, the Gunners could re-sign the man they sold to Juventus for just £10 million in 2017.

Juventus are also said to be interested in Gianluigi Donnarumma, so this rumour could have legs.

Since leaving north London, Szczęsny has shone on the European stage.

The 52-cap Poland international has won three Serie A titles since leaving Arsenal. He’s also won two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups.

Before his trophy-laden spell at Juventus, Szczęsny spent time on loan at Roma, where Arsène Wenger was left very impressed by his efforts.

As quoted by the Mirror, Wenger said: “We have Petr Cech, we have Ospina, we have Wojciech, who is on loan at Roma and has had an exceptional season. We also have Emi Martínez. If there is one thing we don’t have to buy, it’s a goalkeeper.”

Bringing Szczęsny back would make too much sense

In our view, this would be a brilliant signing.

As we saw when David de Gea first arrived on these shores, the Premier League can often be a difficult division for goalkeepers to adjust to.

In that respect, signing Szczęsny – a man who knows the Premier League, and Arsenal, all too well – would be a wise move.

It seems to be of huge significance that Arsenal sign a goalkeeper this summer.

Mat Ryan has now returned to Brighton after his loan spell ended, so the goalkeeping department is looking quite weak for Arteta.

If there is uncertainly in between the sticks, that may also transpire to the backline, so it’s imperative that this is sorted as soon as possible.
