West Bromwich Albion see former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder as a more likely appointment than Slavisa Jokanovic as the Baggies prepare for life back in the Championship, as reported by The Star.
It says a lot about the reputation Wilder built at Bramall Lane that, despite Sheffield United’s nightmare 2020/21 campaign, the Steel City-born tactician remains one of the most respected managers on the market.
In the space of four years, Wilder took a Sheffield United side treading water in the depths of League One and guided his boyhood club to the verge of European qualification.
His penchant for attractive and intuitive football – remember how Wilder’s unique overlapping centre-half system took the Premier League by storm last term – coupled with an enviable promotion record suggests West Brom will be pulling off a coup if the 53-year-old replaces Sam Allardyce at the helm.
West Brom also linked to Jokanovic
Albion have also been linked with Slavisa Jokanovic, the softly-spoken Serb who guided Fulham and Watford to the top flight while also working with Baggies director Luke Dowling at Vicarage Road.

But, according to The Star, West Brom’s directors see Wilder as the most realistic appointment at this stage.
The Express & Star, meanwhile, believes the former Oxford United and Northampton Town boss would be interested in taking the Baggies job, as would Frank Lampard.
The interview process is under way too, although it’s uncertain who the West Brom bosses have held talks with so far.
