Jose Enrique believes Liverpool should try and re-sign Luis Suarez this summer.
Suarez has just fired Atletico Madrid to a league title in Spain, scoring 21 times in 32 Primera Division outings.
Deportes Cuatro has reported already this year that Liverpool would try and re-sign the the Uruguay international if Mohamed Salah were to leave Anfield.
And Enrique has told Empire of the Kop that although the 34-year-old would be a ‘really good signing’ for Jurgen Klopp, he can’t see it happening.
He said: “I believe Suarez will stay put [at Atletico Madrid], like he’s been saying from the start, but he would actually be a really good signing for Liverpool! But I don’t think he will, he’s happy in Spain and his family are happy there too.”
Liverpool fans would love it
There’s no doubt that news of his return would excite many-a-fan on the red half of the Merseyside divide.
That being said, we’re talking about a 34-year-old striker and although he is still doing it in Spain, how much longer?
Suarez, who was sold by Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool in 2014, only fetched £5.5 million when Atletico signed him from Barcelona last summer.
It was one hell of a bargain for Atleti but there’s no denying that the South American hitman will decline in the very near future and it just doesn’t make sense for Liverpool.
Rodgers labelled him as a ‘magical‘ player during the Reds’ 2013-14 campaign – and he was, but that was some eight years ago and it’s best to leave this alone, especially as the Anfield side might have their very own future Suarez in the form of Mateusz Musialowski.
