In stark contrast, the sleepless nights are only just beginning at Bournemouth.
Arnaut Danjuma could not have done more.
The £14 million Holland international scored twice to put the Cherries 2-0 up on aggregate during the play-off semi-final clash with Brentford, only for Chris Mepham’s fateful red card to kick-start a collapse which saw the Bees seal a Wembley place at Bournemouth’s expense.
Danjuma has made no secret of his desire to play Premier League football once again (he has unfinished business in the top flight after a miserable 2019/20).
And the former Club Brugge star didn’t sound like a man preparing himself for a Tuesday night trip to Kenilworth Road when speaking to Voetbal Primeur this week.
From Bournemouth to West Ham for Danjuma?
“If something good comes up, I will always consider it. I want to play as high as possible. If I’m honest, I don’t see myself playing in the Championship for another year,” Danjuma said.
The implication was clear.
Both West Ham United and Southampton are interested in arguably the most exciting winger in the second tier, according to the Sun.
And Danjuma is unlikely to rebuff the advances of two top-flight clubs, especially a Hammers side who secured Europa League qualification on Sunday.
Bournemouth’s star man will go with the blessing of every Cherries supporter too. They know, deep down, that Danjuma is just too good to waste away in the Championship.
