Don Goodman has told Sky Sports that Arsenal’s loss was Aston Villa’s gain regarding Emiliano Martinez.
The former West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has included Martinez in his Premier League Team of the Season.
Goodman has praised the 28-year-old goalkeeper for the impact he has made at Villa.
The Sky Sports pundit has also said that it was Arsenal’s loss to let the Argentine leave last summer.
Goodman told Sky Sports: “Aston Villa conceded 66 goals last year, so the difference has been vast this season and Emiliano Martinez has been a big part of that. Arsenal’s loss is Villa’s gain.”
Martinez joined Villa from Arsenal last summer for £20 million, as reported by The Guardian.
The 28-year-old played well for the Gunners in the final weeks of the 2019-20 when Bernd Leno was injured.
However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and the club’s technical director Edu decided to sell Martinez and keep Leno as the number one goalkeeper.

It has worked well for Martinez.
The Argentine has played regularly for the Villans and has been a big reason why Dean Smith’s side did not have to struggle for survival this season.
Leno is not a bad goalkeeper at all, but the German did make some high-profile mistakes this season.
There are also rumours that Leno could leave Arsenal this summer.
If that happens, then Arsenal will be left rueing their decision to sell Martinez even more.
