Alberto Moreno has told The Guardian that Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has said to him that he will back Villarreal to win against Manchester United.
Villarreal will take on United in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday evening.
Fabinho will support Moreno’s Villarreal against the Red Devils this week, according to the 28-year-old.
The Spain international was on the books of Liverpool from 2014 until 2019 when he moved to Villarreal.
Fabinho joined the Reds from AS Monaco in 2018.
Moreno told The Guardian: “I spoke with Fabinho and he said: ‘Bro, on May 25 I’m a diehard Villarreal fan’.”
Liverpool and United are bitter rivals, and it is hard to imagine that anyone connected with the Reds will even think of wishing the Red Devils luck against Villarreal.
The Red Devils have finished ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League table this season.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team ended up just five points ahead of a Liverpool side who had key players such as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez injured for most of the season.
The Merseyside club’s fans will be hoping that Villarreal win the Europa League final, especially as there is a former Liverpool player in the team.
Moreno did not always have the best of times at Liverpool, but he did win the Champions League with the Reds in 2018-19.
The left-back was also part of the Liverpool team that reached the final of the Champions League in 2018 and the final of the Europa League in 2016.
