Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told Football.London that he does not know if Martin Odegaard will be at the club next season.
Odegaard joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in the January transfer window until the end of the season.
Now that the season is over, the Norway international attacking midfielder is scheduled to go back to his parent club.
Arsenal boss Arteta has said that he hopes that Odegaard is back at the Gunners next season, but he has admitted that he does not know what will happen.
Arteta told Football.London when asked if Arsenal will sign Odegaard permanently: “I don’t know. It’s not in our hands, so I don’t know.”
The Arsenal boss added: “Well we have a very and clear opinion on what we would like to but he’s not our player. We tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team. Hopefully we have given him the feeling that it could be a good place for him.”
Odegaard did not exactly have the impact that Joe Willock had on loan at Newcastle.
However the 22-year-old did relatively well for the Gunners.

The Norwegian showed his quality in certain games and proved that he can form a strong partnership with Emile Smith Rowe in attacking midfield.
The Madrid-owned attacking midfielder made nine starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League.
Odegaard scored one goal and gave two assists.
In six Europa League games for Arsenal, the youngster scored one goal.
It is very likely that the future of Odegaard will not be resolved anytime soon.
Madrid might want to give Odegaard another chance.
After all, Zinedine Zidane’s side failed to win the La Liga title this season and could not get to the final of the Champions League, and they could decide to freshen up their squad.
