Glenn Hoddle has criticised reported Leeds United target Sam Johnstone on BT Sport 2 (4:55pm, May 23, 2021) for the second goal he conceded at Elland Road this afternoon.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star was not impressed by the way Johnstone conceded the second goal during West Bromwich Albion’s Premier League game against Leeds.

Kalvin Phillips found the back of the net in the 42nd minute of the game at Elland Road.

It was a from a direct free kick, and one that Johnstone should have saved.

It was at his near post and did not seem to have too much power on it.

Hoddle was following the match for BT Sports, and he has criticised the goalkeeper, who has been linked with a move to Leeds this summer.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Leeds are among the clubs who are interested in the goalkeeper, who is valued at £18 million by his club West Brom.

Hoddle said on BT Sport 2 (4:55pm, May 23, 2021): “You have to say Sam Johnstone who has had a fantastic season, he really is, just loses a bit of concentration there. It is an awkward one, but he knows he should have saved.”

The Englishman added: “Sam Johnstone there would be very disappointed with that.”

Johnstone has been one of the better players for West Brom this season.

All footballers make mistake, and the 28-year-old is no different.

Making a mistake against a team who reportedly want to sign you is never a good idea, but the Leeds chiefs are unlikely to be swayed by Johnstone’s error today.
