According to journalist Ciro Venerato, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, Daniel Levy is reportedly keen on hiring Gennaro Gattuso as Tottenham’s next manager, and it’s fair to say that the Italian has quite the history with Spurs.

Gattuso didn’t endear himself to the Tottenham fanbase the last time he clashed with the north London club in a famously fiery encounter.

Indeed, the 43-year-old played against Spurs in the Champions League during his playing days, and it’s fair to say that he left a lasting impression as he tried to assault Tottenham coach Joe Jordan, headbutting him and grabbing him by the throat.

As you can imagine, Harry Redknapp had plenty to say about this after the game, labelling Gattuso as ‘crazy’ after his outburst.

To be fair to Redknapp, he wasn’t wrong about Gattuso, it’s not often that you see a player headbutt a coach, and it was an insane situation.

However, Redknapp has also had praise for Gattuso in the past after managing him in Soccer Aid, claiming that he’s a fantastic influence in the dressing room.

“Gattuso was fantastic in the dressing room and, because of being his manager on that occasion against the Rest of the World, I gave it (signing him) serious thought. But it never quite worked out,” Redknapp said.

A decade on from headbutting Jordan, one would have to hope that Gattuso has matured a little and his ‘crazy’ side as subsided for a more relaxed and tactical mind.

The 43-year-old’s managerial CV is quite impressive, it has to be said, taking charge of both AC Milan and Napoli, and you don’t win a World Cup without having a bit of tactical nous about you.

Whether or not Spurs move for Gattuso remains to be seen, but if he does come in he becomes the new Tottenham manager he would join with a big reputation and perhaps a bit of controversy.
