Why did they kill off Charles on 911: Lone Star? Derek Webster’s character had an emotional season 2 exit, so let’s get the decision explained.
Fox’s 911 has been a fan favourite since it arrived in 2018 and it didn’t take long for a spin-off to make a splash.
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, 911: Lone Star emerged onto screens back in January 2020, serving as another police procedural which chronicles the fire, police, and ambulance departments of 126, Austin, Texas.
Season 3 began airing in January 2021 and a number of bombshells have dropped since. However, arguably one of the biggest is the death of Derek Webster’s character in episode 13, titled ‘One Day’.
So, why did they kill off Charles on 911: Lone Star?
Why did they kill off Charles on 911: Lone Star?
- The creators killed Charles on 911: Lone Star season 2 because Derek Webster got another job. He is set to play Steve on the Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown.
This was explained by Gina Torres (who plays Captain Vega, Charles’ wife) while in conversation with Entertainment Tonight. During the interview, she offered her reaction and addressed when she was told about the decision:
“I found out a couple of episodes ago. I want to start with the good positive news. One of the things that put this into play was the fact that Derek Webster, who plays Charles, got a job, a wonderful job that he’s excited about [Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown]. And we’re all excited for him because we all love it when we all get to work and do things that we love to do.”
However, she added that this “gave birth to a terrible sort of solution that I wasn’t happy about.”
What Gina means by this, she is sure to explain: “I’m still trying to get through it because I still so loved what we had presented as a family – as this beautiful multi-ethnic family that loves each other – that struggle that I still feel we’re emblematic of what so many families were going through, particularly through the pandemic.”
The episode saw Captain Vega return home to discover her husband unresponsive with blood coming out of one of his eyes. It’s soon revealed that he had an aneurysm that they were unable to detect and he passed away as a result.
