According to The Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Ralf Rangnick – though it’s unclear for which job he’s actually being targeted.

It’s claimed that a conversation has now been held with Rangnick over a move to North London this summer.

However, the report notes that the talks may have been for either the managerial post or the sporting direct position.

Rangnick has experience in both roles. Most recently, he was working in more a director capacity with Red Bull’s footballing output.

That meant overseeing recruitment and strategy with RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and others clubs in the Red Bull family.

As a coach, Rangnick took Schalke to the Champions League semi-finals in 2011, but has only had two managerial jobs since, both coming in one-year stints as a fill-in boss for Leipzig.

Handing him the reins at Tottenham could be something of a risk, but Rangnick undoubtedly has a great footballing mind.

Jurgen Klopp’s style was ‘inspired’ by Rangnick according to Klopp’s former Mainz teammate Guido Schaefer, and he has also been credited with inspiring the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann.

Rangnick would surely take some convincing to take the director job, and he would need huge control at Tottenham if he was the manager – something that Daniel Levy would have to think long and hard about.
