Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts finally scored his first Premier League goal on Tuesday evening, just as rumours about his future swirl.

The Welsh international came off the bench to clinch Leeds’ 2-0 win at Southampton, and the joy – maybe mixed with a bit of relief – was evident.

Roberts had waited all season for that goal, as whilst he had been turning in decent displays, the goals just weren’t coming for him.

Marcelo Bielsa remains a fan of Roberts, who can play up front or as a number 10, but there are question marks over his future.

The Daily Mail report that Newcastle United want to sign Roberts this summer, given that he is entering the final year of his deal.

Leeds have offered Roberts a new deal in the hope of keeping him, and value him at £10million despite the contract issue.

It’s unlikely that Newcastle would pay that kind of money with Roberts set to become a free agent in 2022, but fans have been reacting to the rumours.

Some think that Roberts just isn’t good enough for Newcastle, suggesting that the Magpies can do better.

Others think Roberts is ‘interesting’, but the general consensus is that Newcastle should be aiming higher than a player who isn’t starting for Leeds…
