Mushoku Tensei has been wildly popular with thousands of fans across the world who have all been following the first season, which is set to end this weekend, with episode 11.

So, will Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation return for season 2?

Will there be a season 2 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless reincarnation?

  • Mushoku Tensei has not been officially renewed for season 2, but the anime is expected to return on Funimation for season 1 part 2 in October 2021!

That’s right, season 1 is not over yet. Mushoku Tensei season 1 is what you would call a ‘split-cour’, a term used for anime series meaning a season will have a break or “split” between airing episodes. Essentially like a hiatus.

Therefore season 1 has not finished but is waiting for its next cour – the series will have 23 episodes in total. Part 2, is expected to release in October 2021. However, this could be subject to change.

A release date was posted on Anime TV’s Twitter account, where they stated “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 2nd-Cour Scheduled for October 2021!”. This was originally thought to be July but has been pushed back, it is not known why the anime has been delayed.

The anime has done incredibly well for its first season ranking at 8.41 on MyAnimeList and 8.7/10 on IMDB. Funimation has officially confirmed that part 2 of season 1 is on its way. Episode 11 post-credits showed a message thanking its viewers and to expect the next part.

For now, season 2 has not been officially confirmed but rumours are going around to say it is in production. Popular leak and rumour site ‘Sugoi Lite’ posted on their Twitter on 5th May 2021, to say that season 2 & 3 are in production. No official sources have confirmed this at this time.

Funimation did state on their website “No premiere details were announced for Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2, but fans will be glad to know it’s on its way.” Meaning we can expect an official announcement soon. Season 2 is reportedly set to be produced by ‘Studio Bind’

Mushoku Tensei: Season 2 release date…

As Mushoku Tensei has not been officially renewed for season 2, a release date has not been revealed.

However, it has been confirmed that Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation season 1 part 2 will premiere in October 2021.

Estimations by fans of the anime predict season 2 will release as early as 2022. Monsters & Critics have said, “The chances of a Mushoku Tensei Season 2 announcement taking place in September 2021 seems high”.

Therefore we can expect to hear more news on season 2’s release once season 1 has finished the second half of its cour.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation adaptation from the novel

Mushoku Tensei holds 26 light novels in total, the first season of the anime is only considered to be a prologue to the manga series and doesn’t go in-depth to the power that is shown in the novels “Six-Sided Universe franchise”.

The anime adaptation has stayed true to its manga counterpart which has been well received by fans of the novel version who then followed the anime series. Fans are enjoying seeing characteristics of Rudeus’ from his past life carried into his new life, as well as his character development overall. Though some traits are shown, may not be for the faint-hearted.

It is thought that the second cour will show a continuation of the anime reflecting the events of volume 4-6, which will end on the 23rd episode, to which point the anime will deviate from the manga.

Please note: No official statements have been made by creators to say there will be a season 2. Many social media users can be seen confirming season 2 but they are in fact referring to part 2 of season 1. The release date is expected and will be updated closer to the time if needed.
