It’s amazing to think it has taken two years following his £14 million arrival for Bournemouth fans to finally see the best of Arnaut Danjuma. In the flesh, we mean.

The Cherries faithful have had plenty of opportunities to watch the Netherlands international strut his stuff from the comfort of their sofa in recent months – Danjuma lighting up the lock-down on the South Coast.

But as supporters returned to the Vitality Stadium for the first time since December, they were welcomed back to their spiritual home by a moment of match-winning magic from one of the most fearsome attacking talents in the Championship.

Danjuma’s 16th goal of a stunning season was the difference as Jonathan Woodgate’s side edged Brentford in the play-off semi-final first leg yesterday.

And it wasn’t just Bournemouth supporters left mesmerised by a footballer who could nutmeg a mermaid.

In March, The Sun reported West Ham United, perhaps inspired by the impact Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have made at the London Stadium, are looking to add another second-tier speed-machine to David Moyes’ squad.

And as Danjuma ran rings round the Brentford defence before slotting home the only goal of the game last night, it felt like only a matter of time before the wing wizard is pulling rabbits out of the hat on the Premier League stage – with or without Bournemouth.

Here’s what some West Ham fans had to say on Twitter about Danjuma’s performance:
