According to German newspaper Bild, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are both interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter.

It’s claimed that Ginter must either sign a new deal or be sold this summer given that he is out of contract in the summer of 2022.

Liverpool and Spurs are thought to be very interested, whilst Inter Milan are also looking towards Ginter as a possible signing.

Ginter is allegedly no closer to signing a new deal though, and hopes that the European Championships can put him in the shop window.

The 27-year-old has played every single minute of the Bundesliga season, starring in central defence alongside Nico Elvedi whilst being called ‘reliable’ by Germany boss Joachim Loew.

A tall figure at 6ft 3in tall, Ginter is comfortable on the ball and solid in the tackle, so it’s no surprise that he is attracting interest.

Jurgen Klopp has already signed Ginter once, working with him at Borussia Dortmund during the 2014-15 season.

Liverpool seem to prefer another Bundesliga defender Ibrahima Konate, so what about Tottenham?

They’re really lacking one star, reliable centre back, and Ginter could be that man – especially as Spurs may feel he can be a bargain inside the final year of his deal.
