Speaking on his podcast, Glenn Hoddle has been lavishing praise upon Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, claiming that his header against West Brom was as good as something Virgil van Dijk would produce.
The Brazilian made all of the headlines at the weekend with his dramatic last-minute winner, and while the sight of a goalkeeper scoring is always bizarre, he took his chance as if he was a prime Andy Carroll.
Hoddle was blown away by what he had seen, and he had a lot of praise for the goalkeeper.
“It was amazing wasn’t it, that header is more important than you can ever imagine. For one, it’s unique and unusual, but I think it’s put Liverpool into that fourth spot. I really do,” Hoddle said.
“When they beat United I thought they’d win their three games, but West Brom played well and I thought they’d dropped two points, and my word Alisson goes up and it’s a marvellous header and this is the problem, nobody has picked him up, the reason the goalie goes up is that he’s over six foot and he gets no respect, he’s that high you’ve got to give him some respect.
“What a header as well, and he’s Brazilian as well, no disrespect to English goalkeepers, but he’s gone up there and it’s as good as a header as Giroud would have made for Chelsea or as good as van Dijk if he’d been fit and gone up there.”

This is a big claim from Hoddle, but to be fair, we can see where he’s coming from.
Alisson may not head many balls, but he connected with this one brilliantly.
Van Dijk has long been Liverpool’s number one threat from set plays, but it seems as though Alisson could be the Reds’ new danger man from corners.
In all seriousness, the Brazilian should be very proud of his goal and as Hoddle says, it was a brilliant header.
