Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, and comparisons with Dennis Bergkamp will surely encourage the Saints’ fans.

The Scottish Sun has reported that Southampton have joined the race for Celtic striker Edouard.

The report has claimed that the Saints have watched the striker closely in recent weeks.

Edouard is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, and despite the Hoops having a poor campaign, the youngster has scored quite a few goals.

The 23-year-old has found the back of the net 16 times in the Scottish Premiership and has provided one assist this season.

Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan told Football Pass in February 2021 that the Frenchman is the second coming of Arsenal legend Bergkamp, as covered by HITC Sport.

Strachan said: “I think Edouard definitely needs somebody up beside him or more people around him. He’s basically a Bergkamp rather than an Ian Wright. I know for a fact that Edouard likes playing with another striker.”

Danny Ings is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, and a partnership between the England international and Edouard would be mouth-watering for the fans.

The Saints do tend to play good attacking football, and if Edouard joins and Ings stays, then the St. Mary’s Stadium faithful could be treated to a lot of goals.
