Noel Whelan has praised Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier on BBC Radio Leeds (2:26pm, May 15, 2021) for his performance today.
Leeds have got the better of Burnley 4-0 away from home at Turf Moor in the Premier League this afternoon.
The Whites were 1-0 up at the half-time interval, and scored thrice in the second half.
Meslier did not have much to do, but when called upon, the 21-year-old did rise to the occasion.
The Frenchman made a brilliant save with his feet when Leeds were 1-0 up.
Former Leeds striker Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and he has praised the French goalkeeper.
Whelan said about Meslier on BBC Radio Leeds (2:26pm, May 15, 2021): “That’s why you commend him because he is very much out of the game at times.
“He doesn’t have the ball at his feet, he has not really been tested, but it takes that one moment where you need to concentre, when you need to earn your corn, in between the sticks, and that was it.”
Meslier is one of the best young goalkeepers in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old is still learning his trade and developing his game, but what he has done so far is absolutely superb.
It is not easy for a 21-year-old to play week in and week out for Leeds, but the Frenchman is doing just that.
Leeds have a real gem in Meslier, who could be a star for the Premier League club for years to come.
