According to Udinese Blog, Everton are desperate to sign Napoli glovesman Alex Meret, who is also attracting the interest of Italy’s biggest clubs.
The Italian news outlet state that Inter Milan and José Mourinho’s Roma are interested, but the Toffees are described as ‘especially’ keen to sign him.
If you are somewhat sceptical about this news, then there is some credibility to the link to ease your doubts.
It was actually Carlo Ancelotti who brought Meret to Naples, signing him from Udinese in a deal worth €25 million (£21.5 million).
The Toffees boss has also described the 24-year-old as ‘special’ in the past, so he’s quite obviously a big fan.
In that respect, it wouldn’t be the most surprising deal of the summer if the 1-cap Italy international ended up at Goodison Park.

It is mentioned in Udinese Blog‘s report that Meret’s future at Napoli is far from certain, so that could help push him towards Merseyside if Ancelotti is serious about signing him.
So, how has the shot-stopper done this season?
Well, he’s held his own, but nothing spectacular. In 26 appearances for Napoli, Meret has kept just six clean sheets.

He has also conceded 35 goals in those outings.
Nevertheless, he is still very, very young in goalkeeping terms at just 24, so he has plenty of time on his side to improve.
Under Ancelotti, a man who clearly rates him, that improvement could happen quicker than it would elsewhere.
