Klopp was being asked about Mohamed Salah, who’d just made his 200th appearance for Liverpool, and where he ranked in terms of the best signings he’d ever made.
Klopp insisted that Salah was the best signing he’d ever made in his managerial career, but he insisted that Lewandowski, who has been linked with Manchester City, wasn’t far behind.
“Top – absolutely top, but it is not about signing. You can sign a player but then we all are responsible, so the player [is] obviously as well and the coaches, to make it happen.
“Let me say it like this: two players, there’s Robert Lewandowski, who I signed for a different amount of money years ago – well, not years ago, but it feels like – who had an incredible development from a different level, but an incredible development.
“With Mo, from the guy who scores from time to time and is a really good football player to this goalscoring machine is a massive development.”
This is very interesting to hear from Klopp.
The German has previously named Lewandowski as the best player he has ever managed, but he doesn’t think he’s the best signing he’s ever made.
Manchester City are already an unstoppable force, and if the reports about them wanting Lewandowski are true, Klopp and his Liverpool side will have an even tougher time when it comes to catching them.
