Speaking on the Soccer AM YouTube channel, Callum Wilson has been talking up the speed Joe Willock possesses.
Newcastle are blessed with a number of rapid players, but Wilson believes that Willock is up there with the quickest players in the squad.
Wilson was playing a game where he had to guess which Newcastle players had the highest rating in a number of attributes you’d find on a FIFA Ultimate Team card, and while Wilson correctly guessed that Allan Saint-Maximin would have the highest pace rating, he says that Willock should be right up there alongside him.
“He’s (Saint-Maximin) so sharp, his acceleration is so sharp, but when you’re talking about top speed Joe is up there, Joe is quite quick you know,” Wilson said.
The striker was then informed that Willock’s pace rating was in fact nowhere near Saint-Maximin’s, and it’s fair to say that Wilson wasn’t happy to hear that.
“We’re going to have to stop playing FIFA I think if these ratings carry on. The thing is that people are picking it who don’t understand football because he’s quick and I think his card rating is a bit disrespectful.”
It’s hard to imagine any player being as fast as Saint-Maximin, but Wilson may have a point about Willock.
The midfielder is absolutely rapid, and while he may not be as fast as Saint-Maximin with the ball, in a straight sprint it could be quite a close contest between the pair.
Miguel Almiron is another rapid player who Newcastle have on their books, and while Steve Bruce’s squad are often criticised for playing boring football, they do have some electric players.
