Arsenal will hand Calum Chambers a new contract extension, according to a report in Football.London this morning.

Chambers is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of next season, and the Gunners will reportedly hand him an extension and reward him for his performances.

This comes as a complete U-turn from Arsenal.

As covered by HITC Sport at the time, The Sunday Mirror (20/09, p74) reported that Arsenal were willing to sell Chambers for £12 million, with Newcastle United keen on the 26-year-old defender at the time.

Goal.com reported in January that the Gunners could send the England international out on loan for the second half of the season.

From being sold to extending his stay at Arsenal indicates a complete U-turn from the Gunners regarding Chambers.

Signed from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £16 million, the 26-year-old has had injury problems at the Emirates Stadium, but he has been very good when he has been called into action this season.

The defender has made six starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League and made three starts and three substitute appearances in the Europa League for the Gunners this season.
