Rangers colossus Connor Goldson could set an incredible milestone if the Gers end the season unbeaten tomorrow against Aberdeen with the defender having played every single minute for Steven Gerrard’s side this term – and the Ibrox ironman has thanked the manager for putting his trust in him as the Gers roared to the title.

After fearing for his career when he had to undergo heart surgery before he moved to Rangers, Goldson is happy to have played his part in restoring the Gers to the top of Scottish football.

Rangers take on Aberdeen tomorrow at Ibrox before being presented with the Premiership trophy and Goldson is delighted for fans ho have had to endure a decade in the wilderness since the club’s last title win.

“I’m fortunate that the manager has trusted me to play every game,” Goldson said.

“It is up to me to stay fit and to recover to the best of my ability. I set out to win the league from the first day I spoke to the manager. It has been a big project and rebuild and I am so happy to put this football club back to where it belongs.

“It has been a tough journey for our supporters over the years and I am delighted for them.”

Fans are hopeful the Gers will get Goldson tied down to a new contract as the former Brighton stopper enters the final 12 months of his deal in Glasgow.

A clean sheet against Aberdeen would set a new Scottish record of 26 in a single season while also setting a new British record for fewest top-flight goals conceded in a season.

Goldson has been central to that success defensively and the Light Blues will be desperate to get him secured to a new long-term contract quickly.
