Whisper it, but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy may potentially have a second shot at signing Milan Skriniar this summer.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for the Inter Milan stalwart last summer but Calciomercato reported that Levy was refusing to pay more than £30 million, leading to a collapse in negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano revealed to Give me Sport in March that the newly-crowned Italian champions could want potentially £65 million for the defender.

But there’s a couple of reasons why Skriniar to Spurs might just be on the agenda again over the coming months – and for a lot less than that figure.

The first reason is because Levy reportedly wants Antonio Conte as Jose Mourinho’s long-term successor [Corriere dello Sport].

And if the Inter boss does wind up in North London then that’ll make the Lilywhites a much more attractive proposition for Skriniar, given his form under the Italian coach.

But the other reason why Tottenham shouldn’t concede defeat in this just yet is because, well, Inter need money.

Conte cancelled a press conference on Wednesday because he did not want to answer questions about the new champions’ financial issues [FC Inter 1908], which vice-president Javier Zanetti described as ‘serious‘.

The San Siro club simply aren’t in a strong enough position to demand £65 million for Skriniar and Levy, being one of Europe’s most feared negotiators, could well knock that price down quite a bit in light of their money concerns.

Even without Conte, Tottenham could find themselves wanting Skriniar a second time but, if they have the former Chelsea and Juventus coach on board, it may make things a lot easier.
