Simone Inzaghi is not even under consideration to be Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager, Alasdair Gold has reported.

Inzaghi has become the favourite to land the Tottenham job with reports in Italy suggesting that the Lazio boss is of interest to the Lilywhites.

However, Gold says that those claims are wide of the mark and that Tottenham don’t have any desire to appoint the Italian boss right now.

Instead, Spurs are keeping their cards very close to their chest, which is leaving people guessing.

“Inzaghi’s name came up,” Gold said. “That suddenly got circulated, people were WhatsApping about it, and people are saying ‘I’ve been told that..’ and it’s like no you haven’t.

“So someone, as I’m led to believe is not even in consideration for Tottenham Hotspur, in Simone Inzaghi is suddenly up at the top of the betting list.”

Tottenham have now been searching for a new manager for some time, with Ryan Mason spending a lengthy period in interim charge.

Mason has done a solid job so far, which has reduced the need for a really urgent appointment.

Tottenham will know the importance of getting their next manager right, due to their struggles this season.

Spurs are in a decisive period right now. If they can appoint a manager who can take them forward then there is certainly a chance that they could challenge for the top four next term.

However, another poor appointment could see Spurs fall away from European contention, with the likes of Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa all improving markedly this time around.
