Lille will demand £70 million for Sven Botman this summer after Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur expressed an interest in the Ligue 1 centre-back, football scout Eric Olhats has told El Mundo Deportivo.

When Les Dogues cashed in on Gabriel Magalhaes and star striker Victor Osimhen in summer 2020, it was assumed Lille would be fighting an uphill battle to secure a return to the Champions League.

But Lille will not only be a UCL team next season, they may also be strutting their stuff on Europe’s biggest stage as reigning Ligue 1 champions.

With just two games remaining, Christophe Galtier’s crop of exciting youngsters and rejuvenated veterans are three points clear of Paris Saint-Germain. They can seal their first domestic crown since the days of a fresh-faced Eden Hazard this weekend too.

Botman, an outstanding left-footed central defender, has been a huge part of this most unexpected of title charges, starting all but one of Lille’s 36 matches since joining on a bargain transfer from Ajax.

And Olhats, one of the most experienced talent-spotters in European football, believes the Dutchman’s price tag has risen by more than £60 million in the space of nine months.

“I know what other centre-backs in Europe cost, it’s my job,” says Olhats, the Atletico Madrid scout who once acted as Antoine Griezmann’s agent.

“They want €80 million (£70 million) for Sven Botman from Lille, for example.”

Fabrizio Romano claims Premier League giants Liverpool and Tottenham both showed an interest in Botman during the January transfer window. And, with both clubs in the market for defensive reinforcements, the 21-year-old could re-enter their radar.

But if Lille really are demanding £70 million, the smart money is on Botman sticking around to defend a Ligue 1 crown that’s within touching distance.

Interestingly, West Ham wanted to sign Botman when he was valued at just £8 million. If only the Hammers could turn back the clock.
