Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo could end up staying with Arsenal after all, according to Football.London.
It’s claimed that Okonkwo has now held positive talks with Edu and Mikel Arteta over a new deal to stay at the Emirates.
Teams in France, Belgium and Portugal all want to sign Okonkwo, whose current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Football.London noted in March that Okonwko looked set to be leaving Arsenal, with no new deal on the table for him at that stage.
However, there have been hints that Okonkwo could stay after all, as Arteta has named him on the bench for a couple of Europa League games.
There could now be a complete U-turn as Okonkwo may extend his contract with the Gunners and then move out on loan next season for first-team football.
The decision on Okonwko comes amid uncertainty between the sticks for Arsenal, with Bernd Leno open to leaving, Mat Ryan is only on loan from Brighton and Runar Runarsson is available.
Okonkwo signing a new deal would give Arsenal a little more stability for the years to come, even if it doesn’t necessarily help them for next season.
If the 19-year-old follows Folarin Balogun in signing a new deal having looked set to leave, Arsenal fans would surely be happy.
