Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry has claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing Harry Kane this summer, despite the fact Edinson Cavani has signed a new deal.

United have previously been linked to Kane, but after Cavani signed a new deal, it would have been understandable to think that they wouldn’t be in the market for a new striker this summer.

However, McGarry claims that this is not the case and that United are hot on Kane’s trail.

“This (Cavani’s new contract) has led to people speculating that United won’t look to sign another striker in the summer, but we have checked this and this is not the case, and certainly not the case in the Harry Kane story,” McGarry said.

“Kane is very much desired by Manchester United. They will of course be somewhat frightened by Daniel Levy’s £170m asking price, but it is our information that Kane is still very much on United’s radar and they fear that if they don’t move for him this summer, they may lose him to another club because Kane is at a crossroads in his career where he feels he probably needs to leave Spurs to win the biggest trophies in the game.”

This is certainly very interesting.

There are very few clubs in world football that could afford to go out and buy Kane this summer, but United are certainly one of those clubs.

Of course, Daniel Levy will not let Kane go cheaply, with McGarry claiming that he’s put a £170m price tag on his head, but if the player truly does want to leave, there may be some room for negotiation there.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming months.
